Ceremonial Cacao Block by Cacao Source

from £14.00

Handcrafted and ethically sourced directly from smallholder Indigenous farming families and community-led collectives across Guatemala, our ceremonial cacao blocks connect your daily practice straight to the stewards of the land. Grown in lush, biodiverse agroforestry systems, every pod is nurtured alongside native timber, fruit trees, and wild flora - honouring Mayan ancestral traditions and working in harmony with nature to restore soil life and forest canopy.

Once harvested, the journey of your cacao is shaped by human hands and deep care. Every single seed that infuses your block is lovingly hand-peeled by a community of over 40 Kaq'chikel women from San Marcos la Laguna, on the shores of Lake Atitlán. Led by inspiring local women leaders like Marta, Ericka, Catarina, Paola, and María, this work provides stable, empowering livelihoods that allow these women to support their families and keep ancient artisan traditions alive. The seeds are then ground and wrapped in craft paper as a gift to your ritual.

Choose from four single-origins, each reflecting the land, stewards, and unique spirit of its home:

  • Springs – Origen Familiar (Suchitepéquez). Cultivated by Cheyo and his family, carrying forward the legacy of his father, Juan. Grown in three small valleys nourished by four natural mineral springs, this unhybridized local Criollo cacao produces an unusually rich, high-fat block with deep earthy notes, coffee undertones, and banana accents.

  • Las Marias – Origen Regenerativo (Izabal). Grown on a landmark regenerative estate on Guatemala’s Atlantic Coast that integrates 140 hectares of cacao agroforestry with 660 hectares of protected tropical forest reserve. Harvested primarily by local women from surrounding communities, its Acriollado genetics yield a smooth, approachable, naturally sweet flavor profile with toasted nut and gentle woody notes.

  • Mama Amor – Origen Colectivo (Suchitepéquez). Stewarded by the Nuevo Amanecer ("New Sunrise") women-led farming collective, founded by community leader Odilia. Formed to build economic independence and safety for local women, their family forest parcels produce a vibrant, heart-opening cacao with a rich, nutty depth and distinct cherry notes.

  • El Cedro – Origen Familiar (Izabal). Grown near the Caribbean coast by the Yatz Xol family. Cultivated in a young, wild agroforestry system shaded by native mahogany, laurel, and cedar trees, their work inspires neighboring farmers to restore local forest cover. It delivers a creamy, comforting texture with deep nuttiness and gentle woody warmth.
